A heating plate comprises a case receivable within a hair straightener iron comprises first and second laminates each made of electrical insulating ceramic material. The first laminate holds a resistor band with outer connections; the second laminate has a hair-contacting surface coated with a polished layer of material. A method of manufacture of the heating plate comprises preparation of a ceramic powder, mixing with solvents, a binding agent and a plasticizer to a desired viscosity; moulding and drying the green layer product, cutting two plates, screen printing a resistor on a first plate, covering the resistor with the second plate, laminating the two plates together under pressure, cutting them to a desired configuration, heating the plates to destroy organic residue in the binding agent, sintering the plates, welding contact terminals; and providing a polished coating layer to the second plate.
