A heating system has a combustion gas chamber (34) at the exterior of a solid fuel (12) for receiving combustion gases from the (12), a chimney (18) located above the combustion gas chamber (34) and having a flue (36) for the outflow of the combustion gases, and an outlet opening (31) located at the top of the combustion gas chamber (34) and provided with a damper (32) for controlling the flow of the combustion gas upwardly through the opening (31). A heat exchange passage (44) adjacent a water tank (20) communicates with the flue (36), and a second opening (40) located at one side of the combustion gas chamber (34) communicates with the heat exchange passage (44) for the outflow of the combustion gas from the combustion gas chamber (34). An oven (14) is located at the top of the combustion gas chamber (34) so as to be heated by the combustion gas therein.
