A method for treating a tar sands formation is disclosed. The method includes heating at least a section of a hydrocarbon layer in the formation from a plurality of heaters located in the formation. The heat is controlled so that at least a majority of the section reaches an average temperature of between 200 °C and 240 °C, which results in visbreaking of at least some hydrocarbons in the section. At least some visbroken hydrocarbon fluids are produced from the formation.

L'invention concerne un procédé pour traiter une formation de sables bitumineux. Le procédé comprend le chauffage d'au moins une section d'une couche d'hydrocarbures dans la formation à partir d'une pluralité de dispositifs de chauffage positionnés dans la formation. Le chauffage est commandé de sorte qu'au moins une majeure partie de la section atteint une température moyenne comprise entre 200°C et 240°C, ce qui a pour résultat une viscoréduction d'au moins certains hydrocarbures dans la section. Au moins certains fluides d'hydrocarbures viscoréduits sont produits à partir de la formation.
