ABSTRACT High current glow discharge treatment in which workpieces are heated to a predetermined processing temperature and then maintained at this temperature by measuring the temperature of the workpieces, forming the time derivative of this temperature, comparing this derivative with a reference value, and adjusting the current of the glow discharge accordingly. The time derivative of the temperature and the reference signal are compared in a comparator which supplies a signal to a proportional-plus-integral regulator for regulating the current of the discharge. The reference signal is provided by a comparator having one input connected to temperature measuring points on the workpiece and the other input connected to a signal having an adjustable predetermined value.
