In particular, the present invention relates to imaging agents comprising a heavy metal cluster having 2 to 8 atoms of the same or different heavy metal elements, and at least one coordinating ligand having 1 to 8 atoms which bond to the cluster, and a number of supporting atoms making up the framework of the ligand.
