-10- HELICAL FLUE BAFFLE FOR A WATER HEATER Abstract of the Disclosure A baffle member for placement in the flue of a water heater or the like. The baffle member comprises a generally helical continuous base portion, with turbulence inducing structure extending inwardly from the base portion to increase the inner surface area of the flue and to impart turbulence to combustion gases flowing through the flue. The turbulence inducing structure comprises a series of spaced fins extending inwardly from the helical base. The baffle member is preferably formed from a continuous single strip of material, and can be helically wound so as to be inserted into the flue and hung from the top of the flue, and thereafter allowed to uncoil so as to bring the outer edges of the baffle member into contact with the inner surface of the flue to maintain the baffle member in position due to the uncoiling force of the baffle member.
