ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A helical mattress or furniture spring 1 has two opposite end windings 2a, 2b lying in parallel planes. Each end winding contains only one bent-out area 5a, 5b having a wire segment 6a, 6b running in a straight line. The side of each end winding lying opposite this straight wire segment has a circular zone 7a, 7b. The two bent-out areas of each spring lie diametrically opposite each other. A spring coil assembly made of such helical springs has the same operational qualities as "offset spring coils" in which there are two bent-out areas in each end winding, but it is much easier and less expensive to produce on automatic assembly equipment.
