A hollow-fiber hemodialyzer (10) is manufactured using an encapsulation process to preliminarily seal the ends (17) of the hollow fiber bundles (14) prior to the potting process. Partially-set quick-setting material (21) is placed in the end caps (18, 19) or potting caps of the hemodialyzer case (11). The caps (18, 19) are then placed over the open ends (12, 13) of the hemodialyzer case (11) so that the ends (17) of the fiber bundles (14) extend into the partially-set material (21) thereby encapsulating the ends (17) of the fiber bundles (14) with partially-set material. After the material is allowed to set, the hemodialyzer (10) is potted using conventional means. As a result of the encapsulation process, maintenance of the bundle fluff to facilitate subsequent potting is achieved and wicking of the high-flux hollow fibers is controlled.
Hémodialyseur (10) à fibres creuses qui est fabriqué selon un procédé d'encapsulation pour obstruer préalablement de manière étanche les extrémités (17) des faisceaux (14) de fibres creuses avant le processus d'encastrement. De la matière (21) à durcissement rapide partiellement durcie est placée dans les bouchons terminaux (18, 19) ou bouchons d'encastrement de l'enveloppe (11) de l'hémodialyseur. Les bouchons (18, 19) sont ensuite placés sur les extrémité ouvertes (12, 13) de l'enveloppe (11) d'hémodialyseur de manière que les extrémités (17) des faisceaux (14) de fibres s'étendent dans la matière (21) partiellement durcie, ce qui provoque l'encapsulation des extrémités (17) des faisceaux (14) de fibres dans la matière partiellement durcie. Une fois ladite matière durcie, ledit hémodialyseur (10) est encastré à l'aide de moyens classiques. Ledit procédé d'encapsulation permet le maintien des propriétés bouffantes du faisceau, ce qui facilite l'encastrement ultérieur et évite l'effet de mèche des fibres creuses à flux élevé.
