Two Hepatitis C Virus envelope proteins (E1 and E2) are expressed without sialylation. Recombinant expression of these proteins in lower eukaryotes, or in mammalian cells in which terminal glycosylation is blocked, results in recombinant proteins which are more similar to native HCV glycoproleins. When isolated by GNA lectin affinity, the E1 and E2 proteins aggregate into virus-like particles. Cells bearing a mannose receptor or asialoglycoprotein receptor are capable of being infected with HCV, and supporting culturing of the virus.

Deux protéines d'enveloppe (E1 et E2) du virus de l'hépatite C (VHC) sont exprimées sans sialylation. L'expression recombinante de ces protéines chez les eucaryotes inférieurs, ou dans les cellules mammaliennes dans lesquelles la glycosylation terminale est bloquée, donne lieu à des protéines recombinantes qui ressemblent davantage aux glycoprotéines natives du VHC. Lorsqu'elles sont isolées par affinité avec la lectine GNA, les protéines E1 et E2 s'agrègent en particules d'allure virale. Les cellules porteuses d'un récepteur du mannose ou d'un récepteur d'asialoglycoprotéine sont réceptives à l'infection par le VHC et sont capables d'entretenir la culture du virus.
