ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE 2-(3-substituted phenyl)-3-amino-2-cyclopentenone derivatives of the Formula I Image (I) wherein R is, for example, C1-C4-alkyl, R1 is hydrogen or Cl-C4- alkyl, R2 is, for example, hydrogen or C1-C4-alkyl, X is hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halo or trifluoromethyl and Y is, for example, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halo, cyano or nitro. The compounds generally exhibit both pre-emergence and post-emergence phytotoxicity and are useful as herbicides and also at low dosages as plant growth regulating agents.
