ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE 5-Amino-3-oxo-4-(3-substituted-phenyl)-2,3- dihydrothiophene and derivatives thereof of the formula I (I) Image wherein n is 0, 1 or 2, R is, for example, lower alkyl or cycloalkyl having 3 to 7 carbon atoms, R1 is hydrogen or alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R2 is, for example, hydrogen or alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, X is hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halo or trifluoromethyl and Y is, for example, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy. The compounds exhibit herbicidal activity and at low dosages also plant-growth regulating activity.
