This invention embodies a two-part herbicidal system comprised of an acylated 1,3-dicarbonyl herbicide compound corresponding to the formula Image and tautomeric forms thereof wherein R is an aromatic moiety, optionally substituted, and a non-phytotoxic antidotally effective amount of an antidote therefor selected from the group of amides of haloalkanoic acids, including oxazolidines and thiazolidines, aromatic oxime derivatives, thiazole carboxylic acids and derivatives, and 1,8-naphthalic anhydride.
