The present invention relates to supported heterogeneous organotin catalysts, particularly this invention relates to a process for the preparation of supported organotin catalysts, polymer-supported organotin catalysts for esterification and transesterification reactions and a process for conducting esterification or transesterification reactions. The supported heterogeneous organotin catalysts is defined by formula X1 to X3: (see formula X1 or X2 or X3) wherein Z = a spacer group -(CH2)m- with Y being an insoluble phenyl-group containing copolymer such as acryinitril- butadien-styrene copolymer, polystyrene-based copolymer, methyl methacrylate-butadien-styrene copolymer, polyphenylenether (co)polymer, polyethylene terephthalate, polyphenylen sulfide, polyurethane or polyamide, in particularly crosslinked polystyrene polymers, cross linked by ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate, divinyl toluene or trivinyl benzene. with m = 2 - 24 with n = 0,01 - 15 % (mol/mol) with R1, R2, R3 are independently selected from a halogen, such as chloro, bromo, iodo or fluoro, C1 - C18 alkyl, C1 - C18 alkylene, phenyl, vinyl, allyl, naphthyl, aralkyl such as C1 - C18 alkyl phenyl, Z, and at least one R1, R2, R3 is a halogen, such as chloro, bromo, iodo or fluoro with R4 being C1 - C18 alkyl, C1 - C18 alkylene, phenyl, vinyl, allyl, naphthyl, aralkyl such as C1 - C18 alkyl phenyl with R5, R6 are independently selected from a halogen, such as chloro, bromo, iodo or fluoro, C1 - C18 alkyl, C1 - C18 alkylene, phenyl, vinyl, allyl, naphthyl, aralkyl such as C1 - C18 alkyl phenyl, Z, and at least one R5, R6 is a halogen, such as chloro, bromo, iodo or fluoro All residues R1 to R6 to be linear or branched were applicable.
