ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A socket head bolt has an improved socket configura- tion. Each side wall of the socket is defined by an inward- ly convex surface which in cross section has a radius of curvature R where Image , S is the width across flats of a wrench key of straight sided regular hexagonal cross section, B is the minimum distance between opposite sides of the socket cross section, and C = B - S. The walls of said socket are connected to an upper surface of the head at an upper end opening of the socket by cham- fers intersecting the upper surface along inwardly convex circular arcs with a radius of curvature which is less than R. A lower end surface of the hexagonal socket has an up- wardly convex central portion.
