47,847 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A high-intensity-discharge lamp having a visible light-transmitting protective envelope enclosing a discharge- sustaining arc tube having electrodes operatively disposed therein. The envelope is designed to carry on the internal surface thereof a thin, lamp-color-modifying and light- diffusing coating. The coating comprises mixed finely- divided phosphor material and very finely divided silica wherein the silica component of said coating consists of hydrophobic silica. This coating is particularly suitable for being applied by an electrostatic process.
