ABSTRACT A hierarchical data transmission system outputs a high speed second data train by step-by-step multiplexing first data trains. A first signal processing part operates at a processing speed corresponding to the first data train. A second signal pro- cessing part operates at a processing speed corresponding to the intermediate speed of the first data train and second data train. A third signal processing part operates at the processing speed cor- responding to the second data train. A first clock signal having a speed corresponding to the processing speed of the third signal pro- cessing part is generated. A second clock signal having a speed corresponding to the processing speed of the second signal proces- sing part is generated by dividing the first clock signal. A third clock signal having a speed corresponding to the processing speed of the third signal processing part, when the first signal proces- sing part operates in association with the third signal processing part, is generated by dividing the second clock signal after phase adjustment with reference to the phase information of the first clock signal. The problem of accumulated delay times preventing the normal multiplexing process from being used, which is present in prior devices, is absent in the present invention.
