An aqueous dispersion of non-melt-processible fluoropolymer, process for making same and concentrated dispersion and powder obtained from the dispersion. The fluoropolymer particles of the dispersion have a standard specific gravity (SSG) of less than 2.225 and comprise a core of high molecular weight polytetrafluoroethylene and a shell of lower molecular weight polytetrafluoroethylene or modified polytetrafluoroethylene. At least about 1.5 weight % of the fluoropolymer particles comprise substantially rod-shaped particles having a length to diameter ratio greater than about 5.

L'invention concerne une dispersion aqueuse de fluoropolymère ne pouvant être mis en oeuvre à l'état fondu, un procédé de production de cette dispersion, ainsi qu'une dispersion concentrée et une poudre obtenues à partir de cette dispersion. Les particules de fluoropolymère de la dispersion présentent une densité standard (SSG) inférieure à 2,225 et comprennent un noyau de polytétrafluoroéthylène de poids moléculaire élevé et une enveloppe de polytétrafluoroéthylène ou de polytétrafluoroéthylène modifié de faible poids moléculaire. Au moins 1,5 % en poids approximativement des particules de fluoropolymère comprennent des particules de forme sensiblement allongée présentant un rapport longueur / diamètre supérieur à 5 approximativement.
