The invention relates to an optical recording medium comprising a substrate, a reflecting layer and a recording layer, which recording layer consists essentially of a dye of the formula (I), (see fig. I) in which R1 and R6 are hydrogen or unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aralkyl or aryl, R6 and R7 are unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aralky or aryl, R3, R4, R8 and R9 are hydrogen, halogen, OR17, SR17, NR18R19, NO2, alkyl, alkenyl or Alkynyl, R5 and R10 are hydrogen, halogen, OR17, SR17, NO2, NR18R19 or unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl or aralkyl, and R11 is hydrogen, (CH2)1-10COO, (CH2)1-10COOR24, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl or unsubstituted or substituted aralkyl or aryl; Y is the anion of an inorganic, organic or organometallic acid, Z is a metal cation, ammonium cation or phosphonium cation, m, n and o are from 1 to 3, and p and q are from 0 to 4; and the stoichiometry of o, p and q is such as not to result in any excess positive or negative charge in the formula (I). The substituents can, if desired, be connected to one another in such a way, via a direct bond or via a bridge -O- or -NR12-, as to form additional five- or six-membered rings. The novel recording media are of high sensitivity and have good reproduction characteristics.

I) dans laquelle R1 et R6 sont un hydrogène ou un alkyle, un alkényle, un alkynyle, un aralkyle ou un aryle non substitué ou substitué, R6 et R7 sont un alkyle, un alkényle, un alkynyle, un aralkyle ou un aryle non substitué ou substitué, R3, R4, R8 et R9 sont un hydrogène, un halogène, OR17, SR17, NR18R19, NO2, un alkyle, un alkényle ou un alkynyle, R5 et R10 sont un hydrogène, un halogène, OR17, SR17, NO2, NR18R19 ou un alkyle, un alkényle, un alkynyle ou un aralkyle non substitué ou substitué et R11 est un hydrogène, (CH2)1-10COO, (CH2)1-10COOR24, un alkyle, un alkényle, un alkynyle, ou un aralkyle ou un aryle non substitué ou substitué; Y est l'anion d'un acide inorganique, organique ou organométallique, Z est un cation métallique, un cation ammonium ou un cation phosphonium, m, n et o peuvent prendre la valeur de 1 à 3, et p et q peuvent prendre la valeur de 0 à 4; et la stoechiométrie de o, p et q est telle qu'aucun excès de charge positive ou négative n'existe dans la formule (I). Les substituants peuvent, au besoin, être liés les uns aux autres par un lien direct ou un pont -O- ou -NR12-, de façon à former d'autres cycles à cinq ou six chaînons. Les nouveaux supports d'enregistrement sont très sensibles et possèdent de bonnes caractéristiques de reproduction.
