A liquid crystal display of improved contrast is provided. Image contrast is determined by the ratio of light from the display pixels that are in an on state to the light from the display pixels that are in an off state. The disclosed system improves on the image contrast by selecting the illumination direction and the panel orientation in such a way as to minimize the amount of light entering the viewing field that is due to scattered and/or diffracted light from the fine features of the display panel.
L'invention concerne un affichage à cristaux liquides, à contraste amélioré. Un contraste d'image est déterminé par le rapport de la lumière émise par les pixels d'affichage à l'état actif et de la lumière émise par les pixels d'affichage à l'état passif. Le système de l'invention améliore le contraste d'une image par sélection du sens de l'éclairage et orientation du panneau, de façon à réduire la quantité de lumière pénétrant dans le champ de vision, ce qui provoque une lumière diffusée et/ou diffractée, à partir des caractéristiques de précision du panneau d'affichage.
