ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A high damping alloy is manufactured by melting a composition for the high damping alloy which comprises 1 to 8% by weight of A?, 2 to 30% by weight of Cr, Fe constituting the balance, and impurities as traces, and, after formed into a predetermined shape, heat treating it at a temperature of 700 to 1200°C. The alloy is suitable for use as a damping member, such as a valve seat for a compressor.
