ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed is a high density code for optical recording. Eight bits of binary data are encoded into a 4/15 block code with the constraint that there be at least two symbol positions between holes or groups of holes. Additionally, a hole is never written in the 15th symbol position, and codes having a high number of sequential holes either within a symbol or between symbols are eliminated.
