ABSTRACT An electrical terminal for insertion into a passage in a dielectric housing or a high density ribbon cable connector incorporating the terminal is disclosed. The high density ribbon cable connector has an insulative housing having passages extending therethrough. Each of the passages have an electrical terminal secured therein. Each terminal has a mating section, an intermediate section and an insulation displacement section. A first transition section is disposed between the mating section and the intermediate section; a second transition section is disposed between the intermediate section and the insulation displacement section. The intermediate section provides forwardly facing stop shoulders for engagement with stop shoulders in the insulative housing to position the terminal in a passage. Each terminal is pushed into a passage in the housing by applying an insertion force on rearwardly facing shoulders on the intermediate section. The first transition section provides that the forwardly facing stop shoulders on the intermediate section are not in the same plane as the mating section of the terminal. The second transition section positions the insulation displacement section out of the plane of the rearwardly facing insertion force shoulders. A termination cover is used to press the ribbon cable onto the insulation displacement sections of the terminals, thereby 14414 CA terminating the conductors of the ribbon cable to respective terminals. 14414 CA
