A minimally damped suspension apparatus for a bicycle, interposed between the seat and the bicycle frame such that its upper portion tilts forwardly in the plane of the bicycle frame at an improved angle of operation, is disclosed. The relatively linear spring rate of the apparatus in conjunction with the mass of the cyclist forms a system having a low frequency of resonance. Rolling surface bearings with self positioning races are used to minimize operational friction. These features of the apparatus act together to effectively and efficiently isolate the rider's torso from a wide range of shock forces. An active spring linearity control system is described which allows for even greater spring linearity. The suspension may be easily pre-tensioned for various weights of cyclists.
