A process for combusting solid, liquid or gaseous fuels in a high temperature refractory-lined reactor, with the aim of generating electric power, comprises mixing at least one fuel with steam. The refractory material of the reactor and the opaque gases of the reaction environment bring about high power infrared radiation which substantially instantaneously preheats the reactants on input, including said reactants being intrinsically transparent to infrared radiation.(N2/O2) but rendered opaque and thus absorbers of energy from infrared radiation thanks to dilution with steam. A high efficiency combustor is provided for carrying out the above~stated process.

L'invention concerne un procédé destiné à la combustion de combustibles solides, liquides ou gazeux dans un réacteur haute température garni d'un matériau réfractaire en vue de la production d'une énergie électrique, et consistant à mélanger au moins un combustible avec de la vapeur. Le matériau réfractaire du réacteur et les gaz opaques de l'environnement de réaction permettent d'obtenir un rayonnement infrarouge haute puissance qui préchauffe de manière sensiblement instantanée les réactifs lors de leur entrée, y compris les réactifs intrinsèquement transparents au rayonnement infrarouge (N¿2?/O¿2?) mais rendus opaques et absorbant donc l'énergie provenant du rayonnement infrarouge du fait de la dilution avec la vapeur. L'invention concerne également une chambre de combustion haute efficacité permettant de mettre en oeuvre le procédé susmentionné.
