ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to an improved audio power amplifier system. The system has an amplifier with an output signal which varies in response to an input signal. The amplifier has two power inputs and a feedback loop around the amplifier which provides a closed-loop transfer function. The two power inputs to the amplifier are provided by tracking switching regulators connected to the amplifier output signal. Alternatively, a single tracking switching regulator with a dual output may be used. This arrangement provides power supply voltages to the amplifier which vary in direct response to the amplifier output signal which reduces the power dis- sipated by the amplifier. Thus, it is possible to provide a high-efficiency amplifier system, while retaining low distortion.
