Abstract Within the housing of a reserve battery cell is included an anode and cathode collector and a quantity of electrolyte which, when applied to the anode and cathode collector, causes the battery to generate an electric current, The electrolyte is separated from the region containing the anode and cathode collector by a first separator which will burst upon the application of sufficient pressure. The housing further encloses a piston means located in contact with the electrolyte. The piston is capable of traveling within the cell housing and is capable of applying sufficient pressure to the electrolyte to burst the separator upon the application of externally applied pressure to the piston. Batteries of cells so defined are not subject to common electrolyte problems which are existent with the prior art method.
