203G5-2230 ABSTRACT Disclosed is a high energy laser system of the TE type. The system includes a chamber housing first and second electrodes disposed facing each other and spaced apart, each electrode extending substantially parallel to an optical axis of the chamber. A pulse producing circuit connected across the electrodes and has a switch device which, when connected across a voltage source, can be actuated to produce high voltage pulses between the electrodes. The system also includes a microstrip capacitor comprising coatings and a die- electric layer between the coatings, the coatings and dielectric layer extending substantially normally to the optical axis of the chamber and being stacked in a direction substantially parallel to the optical axis. The first electrode is connected to earth potential and the second electrode, facing the first electrode, is connected to one of the coatings of the microstrip capacitor. At least one of the coatings is provided with cut-away portions which increase the length of the current flow path for the discharge current which flows when the switch device is actuated.
