The present invention is directed to a high expansion two-component structural foam that expands to about twice its original volume while maintaining good cell structure. The foam of the present invention is based on epoxy resins. Each component of the foam system exhibits storage stability, e.g., no phase separation, yet reacts when combined to provide a cured material having exceptionally good compression strength and modulus. The blowing system used to prepare the foam produces a foam which is uniform in appearance and is essentially free of the large voids often found in conventional two-part thermosettable compositions, even when a relatively large mass is utilized.

L'invention concerne une mousse structurale à deux composants présentant une grande capacité d'expansion, qui peut atteindre environ le double de son volume initial en gardant une bonne structure alvéolaire. Cette mousse contient des résines époxydes. Chaque composant de ce système de mousse est stable au stockage, p. ex. n'est pas sujet à une séparation de phases, mais une fois combiné, réagit de manière à former un matériau traité présentant un module et une résistance à la compression exceptionnels. Le système de soufflage utilisé pour préparer la mousse permet de produire une mousse d'aspect uniforme, essentiellement exempte des grands vides fréquents dans les compositions thermodurcissables à deux composants classiques, même si la masse utilisée est relativement grande.
