ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A smoke detector of the ionization type is provided with high gain sensing and switching means for detecting the presence of airborne products of combustion in a measuring ionization chamber. Sensitive and stable operation is achieved through the use of a field effect transistor in combination with a plurality of cascaded switching element.
