Desirable high infra red reflecting brown rutile pigment compositions are described which comprise from about 40 to about 50% by weight of titanium, from about 2.3 to about 4.5% by weight of manganese, from about 7.3 to about 11% by weight of tungsten, from 0.05 to about 5% of lithium and from about 0.1 to about 20% of cerium. The invention also relates to the method of preparing the brown rutile pigment compositions and to the use of such pigments as colorants for polyvinyl halide compositions, and in particular, polyvinyl chloride compositions.
