2033097 9014555 PCTABS00002 An underwater light source (10) includes a sealed beam arc lamp (12) within a wrought and machined, generally cylindrical aluminum housing (14). The watertight housing (14) has an enlarged diameter at one end to receive the lamp (12) and tapers to a smaller diameter at the other end, which receives the ignitor (34) for the lamp (12). The larger end is covered with a heat resistant cover glass (64), and the smaller end is closed. A cylindrical accessory ring (60) is attached to the front end of the housing (14), and the ring has ventilation openings (72) therein to release heat generated by the lamp (12).
