HIGH MASS LOW RESONANCE SPEAKER SYSTEM ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A relatively small size speaker system is caused to have a lower resonant frequency by providing a partitioned enclosure having an air mass in a first of two chambers that is driven to vibrate as a unit by a pair of speakers on different or opposite sides of the chamber. Air within the other one of the chambers is driven by only one of the speakers, and thus operates primarily as a spring, whereas the air in the first chamber is driven by both speakers and acts primarily as a mass. The two speakers are operated in mechanical phase so as to vibrate the air in the first chamber as a unitary mass by imparting mutually aiding forces to the air mass. This adds a significant amount of mass to the vibratory system and consequently lowers resonant frequency.
