ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE High molecular weight carboxylic acids are provided. The mixed acid products typically contain a high percentage of monocarboxylic acids having 20 or more carbon atoms in the chain. The monocarboxylic acids of aspects of this invention are obtained by the ozonization of high molecular weight .alpha.-olefins under controlled conditions. Using this ozonization process it is possible to obtain mixed acid products wherein the predominant acids contain 22 to 35 carbon atoms. An additional aspect of this invention is the ability to obtain mixed acid products wherein acids having an odd number of carbon atoms are present in significantly larger amounts than acids having an even number of carbon atoms.
