529-070 PATENT ABSTRACT A high performance pneumatic snow tire is provided having a novel tread design. The tread comprises a plurality of tread elements each having at least one edge. The tread elements are arranged in at least four circumferential arrays around the tire such that the edges form at least three circumferential grooves. Generally, one of the circumferential grooves is disposed at a mid-circumferential plane of the tire to promote drainage. The tread elements are designed to maximize cleaning out of the circumferential grooves and to maximize biting while minimizing sloppy handling characteristics.
