The braking device (28) is provided a set of shape memory alloy activators (58) positioned, in an agonistic-antagonistic configuration on each side of a brake lever (42). Braking and releasing phases are dictated by the austenitic transformation of the shape memory alloy activators. During brake activation, shrinking of the braking activator brings the friction pad (52) in contact with a rotating drum (40) creating a braking friction torque. Once the brake has been activated, deformation of a flexible fiberglass component (52) prevents brake releasing by applying sufficient normal force between the drum and the friction pad. Conversely, upon heating of the releasing activator, the pad looses its grip and the drum is free to rotate.
Ce dispositif de freinage est pourvu d'un ensemble de dispositifs de commande en alliage à mémoire de forme positionnés selon une configuration agoniste/antagoniste de part et d'autre d'un levier de frein. Les phases de freinage et de relâchement sont conduites par la transformation austénitique des dispositifs de commande en alliage à mémoire de forme. Pendant l'actionnement du frein, le rétrécissement du dispositif de commande de frein met la plaquette de frottement en contact avec un tambour rotatif, ce qui crée un couple de frottement de freinage. Lorsque le frein a été actionné, la déformation d'un élément de fibre de verre souple empêche le relâchement du frein par l'application d'une force perpendiculaire suffisante entre le tambour et la plaquette de frottement. A l'inverse, lors de l'échauffement du dispositif de commande de relâchement, la plaquette se décolle et la tambour peut tourner librement.
