A ball design for withstanding high differential pressures without leakage features a circumferential groove near the circle of contact on the ball with a surrounding seat. High differential forces are transmitted beyond the circle of contact so that deflection due to applied differential pressures results in flexing in the groove area while maintaining full circumferential seat contact to prevent leakage.

L'invention porte sur un modèle de bille destiné à supporter des hautes pressions différentielles sans fuite, ce modèle de bille se caractérisant par une rainure circonférentielle proche du cercle de contact sur la bille s'appuyant sur un siège sphérique. Des forces différentielles élevées sont transmises au-delà du cercle de contact de sorte qu'une déflexion imputable à l'application des pressions différentielles entraîne un fléchissement dans la zone de la rainure tout en maintenant le contact total du siège circonférentiel pour empêcher les fuites.
