ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The specification describes a method for starting up and low load operation of pressure fired boilers for example with a pressure firing system supplied from a pressurized coal gasification unit. For starting up a heat storage device and a starting boiler are provided. Starting up is carried out using hot water at a temperature of above 100° C. as for example 180° C. from a high pressure pre-heater supplied by the starting boiler. Low load operation is carried out using forced circula- tion of the boiler feed water by means of a water trap. Firstly, the boiler, its pre-heaters, and the evaporator of the hot storage means are filled with hot water until a medium water level has been reached in the water trap. Following this, by-passing the direct return line into the boiler with the help of forced circulation the water from the water trap is circulated through the pre-heaters and the boiler and the circulated water is heated up with the starting boiler in the high pressure heater to the hot water temperature. After achieving the latter the pressurized firing system is ignited and then circulation using the pre-heaters is interrupted and switched over to the direct return line.
