The present invention is directed to a method for treating discolored natural diamonds, especially Type IaB diamond and Type IaA/B diamonds with platelets for improving their color. The method includes placing a discolored natural diamond in a pressure transmitting medium (40) which is consolidated into a pill. Next, the pill is placed into a high pressure/high temperature (HP/HT) press (10) at elevated pressure and elevated temperature within the graphite stable or diamond stable range of the carbon phase diagram for a time sufficient to improve the color of said diamond. Finally, the diamond is recovered from said press (10). Attractive yellowish-green, greenish-yellow and neon yellow-green diamonds can be made by this method.
La présente invention a trait à un procédé de traitement de diamants naturels décolorés, spécialement de diamants du type IaB et du type IaA/B à lamelles, visant à améliorer leur couleur. Le procédé comporte les étapes consistant à: placer un diamant naturel décoloré dans un milieu (40) transmettant la pression qui est consolidé en une pastille; placer ensuite la pastille dans une presse (10) à haute pression/haute température, sous haute pression et à une température élevée se situant dans la plage de stabilité du diagramme de phases du carbone pour le graphite ou le diamant, pendant une durée suffisante pour améliorer la couleur dudit diamant; finalement, récupérer le diamant de ladite presse (10). Ce procédé permet de produire des diamants attrayants vert jaunâtre, jaune verdâtre et jaune vert néon.
