A glass-to-metal seal for use in high temperature and high pressure environments is described. The glass- to-metal seals includes an optical fiber (20) having a metallized portion (18), the metallized portion (18) having an outer dimension; an object (12) having a high strength, corrosion-resistant alloy, the object having an outer surface and an inner surface defining a bore, the bore having a dimension larger than the outer dimension of the metallized portion of the optical fiber; and a hardened solder material disposed between the metallized portion of the optical fiber and the inner surface of the bore, such that a hermetic seal is provided between the metallized portion of the optical fiber and the inner surface of the bore; wherein the solder includes a substance having a melting temperature greater than about 250~ C.
L'invention concerne un joint verre-métal à utiliser dans des environnements haute température et haute pression. Les joints verre-métal de l'invention comprennent : une fibre optique possédant une partie métallisée, laquelle présente une certaine dimension extérieure ; un objet composé d'un alliage haute résistance, résistant à la corrosion, ledit objet présentant une surface extérieure et une surface intérieure définissant un alésage, lequel présente une dimension supérieure à la dimension extérieure de la partie métallisée de la fibre optique ; et un matériau de soudure durci disposé entre la partie métallisée de la fibre optique et la surface intérieure de l'alésage, de façon qu'un joint hermétique soit créé entre la partie métallisée de la fibre optique et la surface intérieure de l'alésage, le matériau de soudure comprenant une substance présentant une température de fusion supérieure à environ 250 °C.
