A seal (12) that is particularly suitable for use in a gas spring (and other high pressure hydraulic and pneumatic sealing applications) and that minimizes leakage of relatively high pressure gas and lubricating oil from the rod end of the gas spring. The generally annular seal body (62) includes a radially inwardly dacing surface (64), force directing lobes (74, 76, 78, 82, 84) and either a plastic wiper insert or a wiper lobe (88) that are designed for minimizing the leakage of oil between the radially inwardly facing surface of the seal body and the adjacent, radially outwardly facing surface of the gas spring's piston rod, and that include a corner edge that projects radially inwardly beyond the plane of the seal body's radially inwardly facing surface. When the seal body is compressed for use in a gas spring and is thus subjected to the high-pressure gas, the induced stresses in the seal body result in the corner edge being forced against the adjacent surface of the piston rod to effectively prevent the leakage of oil therebetween. The permeation of gas axially through the seal body is minimized by the inclusion of a co-molded metal plate (106) in the seal body adjacent to the rod end of the seal body.

L'invention porte sur un joint (12) particulièrement adapté aux ressorts gazeux (ou à toute application hydraulique ou pneumatique à haute pression) qui réduit les fuites de gaz à haute pression et celles de l'huile de graissage pouvant se produire le long de la tige du ressort gazeux. Le corps du joint sensiblement annulaire (62) comprend une surface (64) tournée vers l'intérieur et une surface tournée vers l'extérieur, des lobes (74, 76, 78, 82, 84) dirigeant les forces, et un racleur en plastique ou un lobe racleur (88) réduisant les fuites entre la surface tournée vers l'intérieur du joint et la tige du ressort gazeux. Il comprend en outre un bord de coin saillant vers de la surface intérieure du corps du joint. Lorsque le corps du joint est comprimé et soumis au gaz à haute pression pendant l'utilisation du ressort gazeux, les contraintes y étant induites pressent le bord de coin contre la surface de la tige en empêchant efficacement les fuites de se produire. La perméation axiale du gaz au travers du joint se trouve encore réduite par l'adjonction d'une plaque métallique (106) moulée avec le corps du joint et voisine de l'extrémité du joint côté tige.
