A B S T R A C T High pressure press of the belt type as disclosed in US patent No. 2 941 248 in which the ring defining the pressure chamber is laminated and gaskets of pyrophyllite are interposed between laminations while they are peripherally unconstrained so that on compression the gaskets spread radially outwardly and the pressure chamber shortens axially.
