The high-pressure sodium vapour discharge lamp has a ceramic discharge vessel (11), which has over a length L a substantially constant inner diameter and in which electrodes (12, 13) are arranged opposite to each other at a relative distance D. The lamp emits during operation "white light" and consumes a power of at most 50W. The lamp has a high efficiency due to the fact that D/L ? 0.5.
