An improved electrically operated, pilot-type, "instant-on" solenoid assembly for near-instantaneous control over the flow of compressed gas. The assembly may be applied in fuel systems for propulsion in vehicles using gaseous fuel. It includes a housing with inlet (24) and outlet passages (11) connected to a primary chamber where a primary piston (30) is slidably mounted, a secondary chamber having a secondary piston (70) slidably mounted within the chamber, a solenoid (140) to produce translational movement of the pilot piston, and passageways (22e, 22b, 22c, 22a, 46, 17, 18) linking the various components. When the solenoid is energized, the pilot piston is moved to permit fluid to flow from the primary to the pilot chamber, producing an increase in the differential pressure in the regions of the primary chamber. The differential pressure then forces the primary piston to move, exposing the outlet to fluid flow from the gas inlet.

L'invention concerne un ensemble solénoïde électrique "instantané" du type pilote amélioré destiné à commander de façon quasi-instantanée l'écoulement d'un gaz comprimé. Ledit ensemble, qui peut être utilisé dans les systèmes de carburant destinés à la propulsion des véhicules utilisant du carburant gazeux, comprend un logement pourvu de passages (11) d'entrée (24) et de sortie reliés à une chambre primaire dans laquelle un piston primaire (30) est monté coulissant, une chambre secondaire dans laquelle un piston secondaire (70) est monté coulissant, un solénoïde (140) servant à imprimer un mouvement de translation au piston-pilote, et des passages (22e, 22b, 22c, 22a, 46, 17, 18) reliant les divers organes constituants. Lorsque le solénoïde est activé, le piston-pilote se déplace pour permettre au fluide de s'écouler de la chambre primaire à la chambre pilote, produisant ainsi un accroissement de la pression différentielle dans les régions de la chambre primaire. Cette pression différentielle provoque ensuite le déplacement du piston primaire, exposant ainsi la sortie au fluide arrivant de l'orifice d'admission de gaz.
