ABSTRACT In a quartz analog wristwatch it is known to use a bipole stepping motor driven in discrete steps for timekeeping and setting. It is also known to drive the motor in discrete steps at a normal timekeeping rate or at a higher rate for setting the time, however the higher rate is limited by the need for the rotor of the motor to stabilize after each step. In this invention an improved high rate, bidirectional drive circuit for a bipole stepping motor is achieved through the use of drive pulse generation and modulation circuitry and a low impedance drive coil. Stabilization after each step is eliminated and the rotating system rotates at a substantially constant angular velocity during the setting mode.
