ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Non-aqueous electrolyte cells are disclosed which comprise an alkali metal anode and a solid cathode. The cathode is formed of a major amount of a powdered high energy material having intermixed therewith minor amounts of powdered zinc and powdered sulfur. The mixed cathode material is pelletized and heated in a protective atmosphere to form the cathode. The resulting cells exhibit improved rate capacity.
