A method for underwater exploration which makes use of a parabolic transmitter (1) and a parabolic receiver (3), the transmitter (1) and the receiver (3) being both open at their lower side and immersed below the seawater surface. The electric breakdown discharge occurring between both electrodes (15) of the transmitter (1) generates a primary signal and a pulse which is called ~ cavitation bubble pulse~. The method consists in enhancing the signal (23) produced by the implosion of the cavitation bubble, to the detriment of the primary signal (13~~), by appropriately adjusting the value of the ~spark gap~ (distance d between the electrodes) so as to optimise the delay time (t) and consequently the acoustic efficiency of the transmitter, by transferring the electrostatic energy to the bubble implosion signal.

L'invention concerne un procédé pour l'exploration sous-marine, qui fait appel à un émetteur parabolique (1) et à un récepteur parabolique (3), l'émetteur (1) et le récepteur (3) étant ouverts sur leur côté inférieur et immergés sous la surface de l'eau. La décharge de rupture électrique intervenant entre les deux électrodes (15) de l'émetteur (1) engendre un signal primaire et une impulsion appelée impulsion de bulle de cavitation . Le procédé consiste à augmenter le signal (23) résultant de l'implosion de ladite bulle, au détriment du signal primaire (13''), par un ajustement approprié de la valeur de l'écartement d entre les électrodes, de manière à optimiser le retard (t) et donc l'efficacité acoustique de l'émetteur, en transférant l'énergie électrostatique au signal d'implosion de la bulle.
