High Resolution Image Conversion Abstract of the Invention A first sequence of video fields is employed to form a second sequence of video fields. Each sequence of fields represents the same series of images of a moving picture. Each image represents a single point in time. The first sequence comprises a plurality of groups of plural fields wherein each group represents a different one of the images. Each field of the first sequence comprises a first number of lines per field, and each field of the second sequence comprises a second number of lines per field, the first and second numbers of lines being differ- ent. The first sequence of fields is analyzed to deter- mined which of the fields belong in the same group repre- senting a single image. Such fields as are determined to be in the same group of fields representing a single image are selected for spatial interpolation. The lines of the selected fields of the first sequence are spatially inter- polated to derive the lines of the fields of the second sequence.
