ABSTRACT A process of mixing material particularly suitable for the mixing of ingredients to form a built non-soap detergent bar. Material to be mixed is passed through a housing closely fitting a plurality of circular mixing elements arranged in interengaging and overlapping relationship on two driven parallel rotor shafts. Each of the mixing elements has openings therethrough and the material passes through the housing in the longitudinal direction of the shafts with the majority of the material passing through the openings. The openings comprise apertures within which a slug of material is formed by the passage of the material therethrough, and at least part of the slug is not affected by the shear conditions existing at the faces of the elements.
