HIGH-SPEED AUXILIARY COMPUTER PLUG-IN UNITS Abstract of the Disclosure An auxiliary processor unit adapted to be interconnected with a host computer includes a central-processing unit (CPU) and a random-access memory (RAM) both of which are capable of operating at a higher speed than the CPU and memory in the host computer. The auxiliary processor unit also includes a clock/bus control logic, which determines as a function of address memory locations and CPU status, at which of a high- or low- speed clock the auxiliary processor CPU will operate and the source and destination of the data either within the auxiliary processor and/or between the auxiliary processor and the host computer. In operation, the high-speed CPU and memory in the auxiliary processor unit operationally replace the low-speed CPU and memory in the host computer, whereby data-processing can be performed at a signifi- cantly higher speed and data-processing time is significantly reduced.
