A high speed dial up service includes a multimedia unit (22) comprising of two (or more) digital modems (26) and a controller section (24). The controller (24) provides the interface between the two (or more) digital modems (26). When data is sent from a first analog modem (12a) to a second analog modem (12b), a user calls a first digital modem (26a) in the network. Next, the first digital modem (26a) establishes a connection with a second digital modem (26b). Segments of the controller (24) may be co-located or located in different locations and connected through either Internet or PSTN. Then, the second digital modem (26b) dials up the second analog modem (12b) under direction of the controller (24). Subsequently, the controller (24) commands the digital modems to establish a connection at the fastest possible symmetric rate, near-symmetric, or any other pre-configured rate. Last, the controller (24) bridges traffic between the digital modems and enables the two analog modems to communicate transparently.

L'invention porte sur un service ultrarapide de composition de numéros d'appel MIC comportant une unité multimédia (22) comprenant deux modems numériques (ou plus) (26) et un contrôleur (24) servant d'interface entre les deux (ou plus) modems numériques (26). Lorsqu'on transmet des données d'un premier modem analogique (12a) à un second modem analogique (12b), l'utilisateur appelle un premier modem numérique (26a) du réseau, lequel (26a) établit une connexion avec le second modem numérique (26b). Certaines parties du contrôleur (24) peuvent être placées, seules ou non, dans différents emplacements, et reliées soit par Internet soit par RTPC. Enfin, le contrôleur (24) assure le trafic entre les modems numérique et permet aux deux modems analogique de communiquer en transparence.
